President versus Mister
When someone has earned an officially-recognized title, whether it be President, Governor, Justice, Congressman, Senator, Doctor, Pastor, Reverend, Captain, Professor, etc., they have also earned the right to being called by that title. Than includes President Obama. And so it should always have been "President Obama and Governor Romney". You don't call Dr. Jacobs "Mister Jacobs", you call him "Dr. Jacobs" because that is his title. President or Doctor is a title that replaces mister. President Obama and Dr Jacobs have achieved a higher status than Mister. I think the President of the United States today should always be called "The President" or "President Obama." No excuses, no exceptions. The media and others may claim they don't intend disrespect, but disrespect is what they show.
